Entrance Scholarships - No Application Required
FACULTY OF ENGINEERING: DEAN'S ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships of up to $2,000 each will be awarded to undergraduate students with high academic standing who are entering the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Victoria. The assessment of academic standing of the secondary school students will be based on secondary school course results while assessment of college students will be based on college course results. Scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the Dean.
Entrance Scholarships that Require the Entrance Scholarship Application
A completed online application is required for Entrance Scholarships listed in this section. The deadline, unless stated otherwise in the Terms of Awards, is May 15th. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all Entrance Scholarships.
The scholarships listed below are open to application by students entering the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Victoria directly from British Columbia secondary schools or colleges. The assessment of academic standing of the secondary school students will be based on secondary school course results while assessment of college students will be based on college course results. Recipients will be selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Engineering.
MAJOR W. HORAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students who are entering either their first, second or third year in the Faculty of Engineering.
THE BETTY AND GILBERT KENNEDY ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGINEERING - 1 or more awards
Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students entering the Faculty of Engineering from British Columbia secondary schools or regional colleges.
A scholarship is awarded to a female student entering the Faculty of Engineering from a BC Secondary School. Preference is given to a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant from British Columbia.
MAURICE WILLIAM SUMMERHAYES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships of $20,000 or more, payable over four years, will be awarded to a student with an outstanding academic record, who is entering an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering. To receive scholarship renewals, recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 7.00 or better. Preference will be given, in order, to students who completed secondary school studies on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, or in Canada. At the discretion of the Dean, this scholarship may not be awarded to students who hold another scholarship from the Faculty of Engineering.
Students registered in a co-op or work experience work term will automatically be renewed when they next complete 12 or more academic units in two terms, provided they have a cumulative grade point average of 7.00 or higher in the two terms. Any student who takes neither a co-op, work experience/work term, nor academic units for one or more terms may forfeit their scholarship.
STUART OLSON DOMINION SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering. Students must have a demonstrated interest and aptitude for engineering design through undergraduate course work or participation on teams and/or participation in high school science challenges, competitions and fairs. (First year students must submit a letter of recommendation from a high school science teacher, guidance counselor, principal or vice-principal.) Selection of the recipients will be made by the Faculty of Engineering.
In-Course Scholarships That Require An Application

ALLNORTH SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $2,000 is awarded to an academically outstanding 3rd or 4th year undergraduate electrical, mechanical or civil engineering student in the Faculty of Engineering. If the eligible student is already receiving more than two scholarships of more than $1000 each, the award will be given to another 3rd or 4th year student who also has a high GPA but is receiving less scholarship funding. Application forms are available from the Engineering Undergraduate Office (EUO), Faculty of Engineering and must be returned to the EUO by April 30th. Students will need to demonstrate a dedication to community service.
ANGUS & MARJORIE MCPHERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the Faculty of Engineering. Preference will be given to mature students who have served in the Canadian Military or whose parent(s) have served in the Canadian Military and who demonstrate volunteer community service. Applications are available from the Engineering Undergraduate Office (EUO), Faculty of Engineering and must be returned to the EUO by April 30th.
NORAH AND CALVIN BANKS ABORIGINAL LEADERSHIP AWARD IN THE SCIENCES
One or more awards are given to undergraduate or graduate Aboriginal students in the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering or School of Environmental Studies who demonstrate leadership by encouraging and/or promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields of study in Aboriginal communities. Applications may be obtained from the Office of Indigenous Affairs and must be submitted to that office by April 15th together with reference letters from Aboriginal Community leaders outlining how they demonstrate leadership. Selection of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards or the Graduate Admissions and Awards Committee upon the recommendation of the Director of the Office of Indigenous Affairs in consultation with the Dean of the Faculty of Science, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Director of the School of Environmental Studies.
An award is given to an undergraduate student enrolled in a Faculty of Engineering degree program for an outstanding project or idea that will benefit the quality of life for engineering students. Eligible candidates must have demonstrated community service either at UVic or with another non-profit or community group. Application forms are available from the Engineering Undergraduate Office (EUO), Faculty of Engineering and must be returned to the EUO by April 30th.
SIMBA TECHNOLOGIES INC. SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students who are entering 2nd, 3rd or 4th year in the Bachelor of Science Major or Honours program in Computer Science or the Bachelor of Software Engineering program. Preference will be given to female students. Applications for the scholarship should reference volunteer service in the community and/or demonstrated leadership in or outside of the classroom. Application forms are available from the Engineering Undergraduate Office (EUO), Faculty of Engineering and must be returned with the letter and resume to the EUO by April 30th.
In-Course Scholarship Where No Application Is Required
Applications from students are NOT required for scholarships listed in this section.
Unless otherwise indicated, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the Faculty of Engineering.
These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.
Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.
ANDREAS ANTONIOU MEDAL FOR DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING
A medal is awarded annually to the B.Eng. graduate with the highest graduating GPA in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Digital Signal Processing.
ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS AND GEOSCIENTISTS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists offers Achievement Award Plaques to members of the graduating class of the Faculty of Engineering who show great promise in a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Software Engineering degree program. One of more plaques will be awarded in each of the degree programs.
ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS AND GEOSCIENTISTS GOLD MEDAL
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists offers a mounted gold medal to the undergraduate student in a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Software Engineering degree with the highest graduating average.
Two scholarships of $1,500 each are awarded to academically outstanding students entering the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering program or the Bachelor of Software Engineering program. The selection will be based upon performance during the first year of Engineering at a British Columbia university or community college.
THE SANT S. AULAKH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a student with the highest grade point average in the third year and entering the fourth year in the Faculty of Engineering.
THE BAYNES AWARD IN ENGINEERING
An award has been made available by G.E. Baynes, Consulting Engineer. The award will be made to an outstanding undergraduate student in Engineering (who is a Canadian citizen and) who has demonstrated strong qualities of leadership combined with active participation in sports. As part of the selection process the Faculty will consult with the Engineering Student's Association.
THE JAMES R. BULLICK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships are awarded to outstanding students entering one of the final two years of undergraduate studies. One scholarship will be awarded in the Faculty of Engineering and one in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
THE CUNLIFFE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded to outstanding students entering year 4 of the Engineering program.
CARMANAH PRIZE ON ECO-TECHNOLOGY
One or more prizes are awarded to undergraduate students based on their capstone design project in ELEC 499A, CENG 499A, MECH 400, ELEC 499B, CENG 499B or SENG 499. Projects must have a focus on eco-technology and will be selected by the project design judging team in the Faculty of Engineering.
THE CHARLES HUMPHREY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGINEERING
Scholarships are awarded to two outstanding students proceeding to year 3 or 4 of the Engineering program.
Undergraduate scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated excellence and who have completed two years of studies in one of the Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering Programs. One scholarship will be awarded in each of the three disciplines. Award winners must be student members in good standing of the IEEE.
LAFARGE CANADA SCHOLARSHIP
Three scholarships of $3,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students who completed the Engineering Bridge Program at Camosun College and who were admitted to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Victoria. Students must have completed at least the first term of 3rd year (Term 3A) and must be currently enrolled in either the second term of 3rd year (3B) or the first term of 4th year (4A). Preference will be given to students with outstanding achievement in those courses considered prerequisites in the Mechatronics & Embedded Systems Option in any program in Engineering. Students need not be pursuing the Mechatronics & Embedded Systems Option to be eligible for consideration. Preference is also given to a female student for one of these scholarships.
THE JOHANNES G. NORDAL SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGINEERING
A scholarship is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student in the third or fourth year of a program in the Faculty of Engineering.
STUART OLSON DOMINION SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering. PLINT SCHOLARSHIP
Three scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering who have completed 15 units in Terms 3A & 3B and who are registered in Term 4A. Preference will be given to a female student for one of these three scholarships.
THE HUGH AND LILIAN SALMOND ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships are awarded annually to students entering the third or fourth year of a program in the Faculty of Engineering. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have contributed to an innovative and practical engineering design with special emphasis on solar or other alternative energy sources, or work in low-polluting energy systems.
RAY AND NAOMI SIMPSON SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a second year student enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering program in electrical or mechanical engineering. If a student maintains a cumulative grade point average of 7.0 or better, the scholarship is automatically renewed upon entering the 3rd and the 4th years of the program. A student whose grade point average falls between 6.50 and 6.99 may file a written appeal with the Dean of Engineering to seek special consideration for the renewal of the scholarship. No renewal will be considered if a student’s average falls below 6.50. Preference will be given to a Canadian student first, secondly from Australia and/or New Zealand and if there are no available students from these countries then students from the British Commonwealth of Nations.
DAVID STANONIK PACIFIC NORTHERN GAS SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering third or fourth year in the Faculty of Engineering who have shown leadership qualities. Preference will be given to a student from Northern British Columbia. These scholarships are made in memory of David Stanonik who was a 1997 graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
BEZ TABARROK SCHOLARSHIP IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
A scholarship is awarded to a third or fourth year undergraduate student or a graduate student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In the case of an undergraduate student, selection of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In the case of a graduate student, selection of the recipient will be made by the Graduate Studies Awards Committee upon the recommendation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
VANCOUVER ISLAND CHAPTER OF A.S.H.R.A.E. INC. ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded annually to a student registered in a Bachelor of Engineering program in Mechanical Engineering with high academic standing in courses related to heating ventilation and air conditioning. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Chapter Scholarship Committee which shall consist of two members of the Chapter and three representatives of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
THE NORMAN YARROW SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGINEERING
One or more scholarships are awarded to an outstanding student or students continuing in the Engineering program at the University of Victoria. Preference is given to students in the Mechanical Engineering program.
