Unless otherwise indicated in the Terms of Awards, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the Faculty of Law.
These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.

ACHESON WHITLEY SWEENEY AND FOLEY PRIZE IN TORTS
A prize of $300, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the first year Torts course.

One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering the Faculty of Law.
THE ALEXANDER, HOLBURN, BEAUDIN AND LANG SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $1000 is awarded to a student completing the second year of the J.D. program who has achieved high
academic standing and who has demonstrated the qualities required for the practice of law.
BLAKE, CASSELS & GRAYDON LIMITED LIABILITY PARTNERSHIP AWARD IN CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL LAW
The law firm of Blake, Cassels & Graydon sponsors the Blake, Cassels & Graydon Award in Corporate and Commercial Law. The award, in an amount not less than $1,000, is awarded to the law student who has demonstrated academic excellence in the areas of corporate and commercial law at the Faculty of Law. In recommending a student for the award, the Faculty will take into account the performance of the student in Contract Law, Sale of Goods, Secured Transactions, Securities Regulation, and Business Associations.
BLAKE, CASSELS AND GRAYDON LIMITED LIABILITY PARTNERSHIP FIRST YEAR ACHIEVEMENT PRIZE
A prize in the amount of $1250 is awarded to a student who, in the opinion of the Faculty of Law, has shown excellence in first year studies and who has contributed to extracurricular service in the Faculty of Law. Nominations for the service
component of the prize will be supplied by the Law Students' Society.
BLAKE, CASSELS AND GRAYDON LIMITED LIABILITY PARTNERSHIP PRIZE IN COMPETITION LAW
A prize of $600 or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student who has demonstrated
excellence in the Competition Law course.
BLAKES SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
A scholarship of $5000 is available to a student entering second year in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated academic excellence in the first year of law studies. Additional criteria may include financial need, membership in a historically disadvantaged group as outlined by the relevant human rights legislation in the Province of British Columbia, involvement in the community, extra-curricular activities at the University or at the Law School, and whether a student has multiple responsibilities and limited support. If a student maintains a grade point average of 6.25 or higher, the scholarship is automatically renewed for the third year of law studies.
BORDEN LADNER GERVAIS PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD
Two awards of $3,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding full-time undergraduate students in the Faculty of Law who have completed first year and have a commitment to professional or service excellence by consistently expanding their knowledge of the law, demonstrating the highest standards of integrity, offering innovative ideas, taking a collaborative approach and contributing to the community.
* SYLVIA BROWN ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to an Aboriginal student entering the Faculty of Law. Preference will be given to a student who is a member of the Heiltsuk or Kitasoo or Nuxalk communities.
* BONNIE BRYAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded to students who have completed second year in the Faculty of Law. Preference is given to female students who are active in social justice issues relating to women or in furthering the
place of women in the legal profession.
THE BRITISH COLUMBIA SUPERIOR COURT JUDGES SCHOLARSHIP
One or two scholarships totalling $2835 are awarded on the basis of general academic proficiency to students in the Faculty of Law who have completed the first or second year and are proceeding to the next higher year. This award is established by the members of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
BULL, HOUSSER AND TUPPER AWARD IN COMMERCIAL AND CONSUMER LAW
An award of $500 is made on the basis of academic excellence to the undergraduate student standing first in the Commercial and Consumer Law course in the Faculty of Law.
* THE ANNIE CADBY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship, established by Louis F. Lindholm, is awarded to the student who attains the highest standing in the
introductory course on Constitutional Law offered by the Faculty of Law.
CANADIAN PETROLEUM LAW FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $2500 is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law with the highest grade in the Oil and Gas Law Course.
CARFRA & LAWTON SCHOLARSHIP
An award of $1,000 is given to a student in the Faculty of Law who has completed course work in Insurance Law or Civil
Procedure and demonstrates an aptitude for or interest in practicing law in either of those areas.
CBA FINANCIAL CORP. LAW SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award is given to the runner up each year for the CBA BC Branch Award.
CBA BC BRANCH ENTRANCE AWARD
An award in the amount of $4,000 is given to a student entering UVic Faculty of Law who has best shown a strong commitment to the ideals served by the Canadian Bar Association, which include promotion of Justice and/or law reform, through his or her exemplary public or community service, as demonstrated by extra-curricular activities at educational institutions, volunteer work with community or charitable organizations, or any kind of public service activities. Membership in the Canadian Bar Association is not a requirement for eligibility to receive this Award; however, it may be a factor taken into account by the Selection Committee in choosing the successful candidate. The Selection Committee of the CBA will determine the recipient.
CHRIS CONSIDINE PRIZE IN EVIDENCE
A prize of $600 is awarded to the student standing first in the Evidence course in the Faculty of Law.
CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION SOCIETY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA AWARD IN CRIMINAL LAW HONOURING MR. JUSTICE JOHN BOUCK
An award of $1000 is given to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated academic excellence in the first year Criminal Law Course.
COOK ROBERTS LLP SCHOLARSHIP IN BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS
A scholarship of $500 or such higher value as the donor may determine is awarded to a student who has achieved high academic standing in the Business Associations course and who has participated substantially in extra-curricular activities in the Faculty of Law.
COOK ROBERTS LLP SCHOLARSHIP IN CIVIL PROCEDURE
A scholarship of $500 or such higher value as the donor may determine is awarded to a student who has achieved high academic standing in the Civil Procedure course and who has participated substantially in extra-curricular activities.
* CREASE HARMAN AND COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP IN LAW
A scholarship is awarded to the student who stands highest in the second year of the J.D. Program. The scholarship was established by the Victoria Law Firm of Crease Harman and Company in honour of D.M. Gordon, Q.C.

THE DAVIS LLP PRIZE IN ADMINISTRATIVE LAW
A prize of $500, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the Administrative Law course.
THE DAVIS LLP PRIZE IN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
A prize of $500, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the Environmental Law course.
THE DAVIS LLP SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to a student who has completed the first year program in the Faculty of Law with high academic standing.
DAVIS LLP SHIELD AND BOOK PRIZE
Two book prizes of $200 each are awarded to students who made the best submission, oral or written, in the annual Mock Trial competition in the Faculty of Law. The names of the recipients will be engraved on a shield and the prize is awarded to the recipients for the purchase of a legal book of their choice.
PROFESSOR MANEESHA DECKHA AWARD IN ANIMALS, CULTURE & THE LAW
An award of $300 is given to one or more undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in the Animals, Culture and the Law course and have either demonstrated academic excellence or produced an excellent essay in the course.
* THE JIM ELLIS INTERNATIONAL LAW MOOTING AWARD
The award shall be made to the students in the Faculty of Law who have demonstrated excellence in preparing and arguing International Law Moots. The award is made to the students who represent the Faculty of Law in an International Law Moot Court Competition. Funds associated with this award will be used to defray the expenses connected with the competition including expenses incurred by the students attending the competition. The names of the recipients will be engraved on a plaque that will be located in the Begbie Building to commemorate the award. Selection of the recipients of this award will be made by the Faculty of Law.
* THE PROFESSOR JIM ELLIS MEMORIAL PRIZE IN ADVANCED TAXATION
A prize is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the Advanced Taxation course.

A prize is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the International Business and Trade Law course.

THE FASKEN MARTINEAU DuMOULIN PRIZE IN EMPLOYMENT LAW
A prize of $600, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the Employment Law course.
THE FASKEN MARTINEAU DuMOULIN PRIZE IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW RESEARCH
A prize of $600, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has produced an excellent research paper in the area of the Intellectual Property Law, or directly related areas. The paper may be produced within a particular course or by way of a Directed Research (Law 399) paper.
THE FASKEN MARTINEAU DuMOULIN PRIZE IN REAL PROPERTY TRANSACTIONS (LAW 317)
The law firm of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin of Vancouver has established a prize in the amount of $600, or such higher
value as the donor may determine, to be awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellence in the Real Property
Transactions course offered by the Faculty of Law. In the event that the course is taught in two or more sections in a
particular year, a prize of $300, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to the student in each section who has demonstrated excellence in the course.
THE FASKEN MARTINEAU DuMOULIN SCHOLARSHIP
A $850 scholarship donated by the Fasken Martineau DuMoulin legal firm is offered to a student in the Faculty of Law. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student in first year law.
THE FASKEN MARTINEAU DuMOULIN PRIZE FOR RESEARCH
A prize of $400, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student who, in the opinion of the
Faculty of Law, has produced an excellent research paper worthy of wider distribution. The paper may be produced within a particular course or under the rubric of Directed Research (Law 399). Preferred consideration is given to work in the employment, labour, work place and collective agreement law areas.
HENNING FAUST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to an outstanding student entering the J.D. program in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated the highest in academic excellence during his or her studies. In reflection of the life of the extraordinary individual for whom this scholarship is named, consideration in the selection process may also be given to the student's record of contributions to the community, achievement in extra-curricular activities, and accomplishments in athletic pursuits.
FOUNDERS COMMITTEE GRADUATION AWARD IN LAW IN HONOUR OF ALLAN COX, HAMISH GOW AND ROBERT
HUTCHINSON
The Victoria Bar Association has endowed and provides annual funds for the Founders Committee Graduation Award in honour of Allan Cox, Hamish Gow and the Honourable Bob Hutchinson who, with Murray Fraser, were members of the organizing committee for the Law School at the University of Victoria. The award is given to a graduating student who is articling in Victoria, and who has made an outstanding contribution to the educational experience of his or her fellow students, and has demonstrated a commitment to public service and relations with the profession during their time at the Faculty of Law. The award shall be made at the Annual Meeting of the Victoria Bar Association, and shall be presented by the President of the Victoria Bar Association and the Dean of the Faculty of Law.
* MURRAY & ANNE FRASER SCHOLARSHIP (first disbursement 2004)
A scholarship is awarded to a student entering first year in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated leadership ability while at the University of Victoria or prior to admission to the University.
EMILY GOODBRAND ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
The purpose of this gift shall be to provide an annual scholarship in memory of Emily Goodbrand. The scholarship shall be awarded to a student entering the J.D. program at the Faculty of Law who demonstrates academic achievement and a commitment to social justice. Preference may be given to a student who is a graduate of the University of Victoria
THE GOWLINGS PRIZE IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND TECHNOLOGY LAW
An award is made to a student in intellectual property and/or technology law courses.
THE GUILD, YULE & COMPANY ADVOCACY SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $1,500 is awarded to a student entering second year in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in academic studies and who shows outstanding potential as an advocate in first year law.
THE GUILD, YULE & COMPANY ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $1,500 is awarded to a student entering the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in academic studies and who shows evidence of an interest in advocacy. The entrance scholarship is awarded upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Law in consultation with the donor.
THE HARPER GREY LLP SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $2,500, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law
achieving high standing who is proceeding to the next year of study.
THE HARPER GREY LLP PRIZE IN INSURANCE LAW
A prize of $500, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the Insurance Law course.
* THE ALLAN HIGENBOTTAM PRIZE
The prize is awarded to the student in the Faculty of Law who receives the highest standing in the Law, Legislation and Policy course. The endowment for this prize was provided by the Province of British Columbia in memory of the late G. Allan Higenbottam, former Legislative Counsel of British Columbia.
* THE G. ALLAN HIGENBOTTAM PRIZE IN LEGAL AND LEGISLATIVE DRAFTING
The prize is awarded to the student in the Faculty of Law who, in the opinion of the Faculty, has demonstrated excellence in legal and legislative drafting in an upper year course. The Prize has been established to commemorate the memory of the late G. Allan Higenbottam, former Legislative Counsel of the Province of British Columbia. The endowment for the Prize has been provided by the family of the late G. Allan Higenbottam.
KEITH B. JOBSON AWARD
An award is presented to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated leadership, community interest or academic excellence in respect to aboriginal issues.
* CHRISTOPHER S. JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a second or third year aboriginal student in the Faculty of Law. Preference is given to a student who is enrolled in the Law Centre program or has shown interest in criminal law and who has worked or is still working in aboriginal communities or other community organizations.
* BENNETT JONES LLP ALUMNI ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering the Faculty of Law J.D. program who have demonstrated academic excellence. Nomination of the student recipient will be made by the Faculty of Law.
*CHRISTOPHER P. KEHLER MEMORIAL PRIZE IN FAMILY LAW
A prize is awarded to one student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in a Family Law course, or an Advanced Family Law course.
One or more scholarships are awarded to an outstanding students beginning year two or three of the Law program in the Faculty of Law.
JANES FREEDMAN KYLE LAW CORPORATION PRIZE IN INDIGENOUS LANDS, RIGHTS AND GOVERNANCE
A prize of $1,000 is awarded to a student who has achieved high academic standing in the Indigenous Lands, Rights and Governance course in the Faculty of Law.
* LAW ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded in an amount no less than $1,000 each. The scholarship shall be awarded to a student entering the J.D. Program in the Faculty of Law who demonstrates academic achievement.
THE LAW FOUNDATION OF B.C. ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
The Law Foundation of British Columbia provides funds for the establishment of a number of Entrance Scholarships of $5000 to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Laws program who have outstanding academic records and who have such other qualities, such as service to the community, which indicate they will make significant contributions to the legal profession and the community at large and who are either Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. The Entrance Scholarships are awarded upon the recommendation of a committee consisting of the Dean of Law or his delegate, two members of the Faculty of Law named by the Dean and two representatives of the Law Foundation of British Columbia.
LAW FOUNDATION/DAVID STRONG LEADERSHIP IN LEGAL STUDIES
One or more awards are given to students completing first or second year in the Faculty of Law, who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement and who, in the opinion of the faculty, have made a special contribution to the academic mission of the faculty through their intellectual enthusiasm, and participation or leadership in the facultys intellectual and scholarly life.
THE LAWSON LUNDELL LAW PRIZE IN BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS
A prize of $300, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in each of the two sections of the Business Associations course offered by the Faculty of Law, who has demonstrated excellence in the course. In the event that only one section of the course is offered in an academic year, two students in the same section may be selected. If more than two sections are established in any given year, a student in each section, sharing on a pro-rated basis, may be selected.
LAWSON LUNDELL LLP ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship in the sum of $15,000 is awarded to a student entering the Faculty of Law J.D. program who has demonstrated academic excellence. Preference will be given to a student who is a resident of Western Canada and who has demonstrated entrepreneurial initiative in the community or through academic pursuits. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Faculty of Law.

A prize of $1,500 is awarded to a student who has achieved high academic standing in the Administrative Law Process course in the Faculty of Law. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Faculty of Law.

A prize in the sum of $1,500 is awarded to a student who has achieved high academic standing in the Secured Transactions course in the Faculty of Law. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Faculty of Law.
* LAWSON LUNDELL LLP PRIZE IN SECURITIES REGULATION
A prize in the sum of $1,500 is awarded to a student who has achieved high academic standing in the Securities Regulations course in the Faculty of Law. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Faculty of Law.
* THE LARS ALFRED LINDHOLM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship, established by Louis F. Lindholm, is awarded to the student who attains the highest standing in the Labour
Law course offered by the Faculty of Law.

THE MACISAAC & COMPANY PRIZE IN COMMUNITY LAW - LEGAL AID CLINIC (LAW 350A)
A prize of $300, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student who has demonstrated
excellence in the Community Law Legal Aid Clinic course conducted at the Law Centre.
THE RONALD F. MacISAAC PRIZE
A prize of $200 is awarded to the student presenting the best paper either in counselling sexually abused children or
understanding the problems associated with assisting them. Normally, eligible papers will be associated with courses in
Directed Research, Family Law, Evidence, or Children and the Law offered by the Faculty of Law.
* THE MACLEAN SCHOLARSHIP IN LEGAL HISTORY AND CRIMINAL LAW
Up to three scholarships or prizes are awarded to students in the Faculty of Law who have demonstrated high academic
achievement in research and writing on the subjects of legal history or criminal law and procedure.
* MARTLET CHAPTER IODE SCHOLARSHIP IN LAW
A scholarship is awarded to the female student with the highest standing in the second year of the J.D. Program. The scholarship was established by the Martlet Chapter of the IODE.
JOHN McALPINE PRIZE IN CIVIL LIBERTIES AND HUMAN RIGHTS
A prize of not less than $750 is awarded to the student standing first in the Civil Liberties and Human Rights course in the Faculty of Law.
McCARTHY TETRAULT PRIZE IN CONTRACTS
A prize of $1,000 is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the first year course on Contracts.
McCARTHY TETRAULT PRIZE IN PROPERTY
A prize of $1,000 is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the first year course on Property.
McCARTHY TETRAULT SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF JOHN FINLAY
One or more scholarships of $1,000 in total is awarded to students in the Faculty of Law for outstanding performance in a legal skills, ethics or advocacy course or in the mooting program.
CAROLYN E. & ROBERT J. McCORMICK ABORIGINAL ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $9,000 is awarded to an Aboriginal student entering the Faculty of Law J.D. program who has demonstrated academic excellence. Nomination of the student recipient will be made by the Faculty of Law.
THE WILLIAM R. McINTYRE MEDAL
The William McIntyre Medal is presented annually to a member of the graduating class who, in the opinion of the Faculty, has exhibited the highest qualities of community service, student leadership and academic excellence over the course of the J.D. program in the Faculty. The medal recognizes the very special relationship that the Faculty of Law has enjoyed with the Honourable William R. McIntyre, who retired from the Supreme Court of Canada in 1989.
MCMILLAN LLP FIRST YEAR ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
An award of $500 is made to a student entering second year in the Faculty of Law who has graduated from a University in the Province of Ontario and who has demonstrated both leadership and outstanding academic achievement.
MILLER THOMSON ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a student entering the Faculty of Law who exhibits the highest qualities of community service, student leadership and academic excellence.
MULLIGAN TAM PEARSON CRIMINAL LAW SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $1000 is awarded to a student entering second year in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated an interest in and an aptitude for criminal law.
* THE PAMELA MURRAY, Q.C., ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship, established in the memory of Pamela Murray, Q.C., is awarded to a female student entering the first year of the Bachelor of Laws program who has an outstanding academic record and who has shown by previous service to the community that she will likely make a significant contribution to the Faculty of Law.
*THE RONALD S. NAIRNE MEMORIAL AWARD
The Ronald S. Nairne Memorial Award is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has attained academic standing in the year and whose contributions to the curriculum or extracurricular activities of the Faculty of Law, which have been based on the student's career experience prior to enrolling in the Faculty, have enhanced the quality of life and the academic experience of both students and Faculty members.

A scholarship is awarded to a student entering the Faculty of Law J.D. program who has demonstrated academic excellence. Nomination of the student recipient will be made by the Faculty of Law.
NASH & COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP IN EVIDENCE
A scholarship of $500 is awarded to an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Law who demonstrates academic excellence in the Evidence course.
NASH & COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP IN TORTS
A scholarship of $500 is awarded to an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Law who demonstrates academic excellence in the Torts course.
* NEW CAR DEALERS ASSOCIATION OF BC ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP IN LAW
One or more scholarships are awarded to students who are entering the Faculty of Law. Preference is given to students who were born in British Columbia and who are resident or ordinarily resident in British Columbia prior to post secondary education.
OSLER, HOSKIN & HARCOURT PRIZE IN CONTRACTS AND PROPERTY
An award is made to a first year student who achieves the highest overall grade in first year contracts and property courses.
THE OYEN, WIGGS, GREEN & MUTALA PRIZE IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
A prize of $625, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student who has demonstrated
excellence in the Intellectual Property course in the Faculty of Law.
HEATHER RAVEN LEADERSHIP AWARD
This award is given to a second year student in the Faculty of Law, who has demonstrated leadership, academic excellence and a commitment to community service. The award is established by the Law Foundation of BC and the Faculty of Law in honour of Heather Raven.
ANN ROBERTS HUMANITARIAN AWARD
An award is made to a Faculty of Law student who is in their second or subsequent year of studies. The award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution of his or her time and effort in lending support and assistance to the well being of individuals within the Law School, of the Law School as a whole and/or of people within the community at large. Nomination forms are available from and must be submitted to the Law School by January 31. The award is made on recommendation of the Faculty of Law in consultation with the Law School´s Selection Committee.
DAVID ROBERTS PRIZE IN LEGAL WRITING
The Advocate, which is the journal of the legal profession in British Columbia, awards a prize totalling $3,000 to one or more students in the Faculty of Law who write and submit a paper which, in the opinion of a Committee of the Faculty designated for this purpose, best exemplifies the presentation of a legal subject in a literate and persuasive manner. The selection will be made from among papers submitted in nomination by members of the Faculty or by students themselves.

One or more scholarships are awarded to students in the Faculty of Law.
THE ROYAL TRUST PRIZE IN TRUSTS
A prize of $500, or such higher value as the donor may determine, is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the Trusts course.

One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering the Faculty of Law. Preference is given to students who
demonstrate involvement in one or more of the following areas: community service, athletics and the performing or creative arts.

SCOTIATRUST - DONOVAN AND MARYLA WATERS AWARD IN TRUSTS AND ESTATE PLANNING
An award of $1000 or more is made to a student in second or third year in the Faculty of Law who has achieved excellence in the area of Trusts, Wills and Estate Planning.
SHERIDAN SCOTT ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP*
One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students entering the J.D. program in the Faculty of Law.
THORSTEINSSONS PRIZE IN TAXATION
A course prize totalling $700 is awarded to the student obtaining the highest grade in each teaching section of the basic
course in Taxation offered in the Faculty of Law.
J.S.D. TORY PRIZE FOR ADVOCACY
The law firm of Tory, Tory, DesLauriers and Binnington has established the J.S.D. Tory Prize for Advocacy. The prize, in an amount not less than $1,000 is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the Faculty, is the most outstanding student in the Advocacy program at the Faculty of Law. In determining the recipient of the award, the Faculty shall have regard to the student's performance in the Legal Mooting Course, the Advocacy course, the Clinical Legal Education program, and in inter-scholastic mooting competitions.
* CHIEF MICHAEL A. UNDERWOOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a native student who has completed second year of the J.D. program and has
contributed to the life of the Faculty of Law and the native community.
UNIVERSITY PUBLISHERS AWARD
University Publishers presents two awards of $250 each. One is made to a first year law student about to enter second year studies; a second is made to a second year law student about to enter third year studies. The awards are based on the students' participation in law student affairs and student government, and upon the joint recommendation of the Law
Students' Society and the Dean of the Faculty of Law.
* VICTORIA ESTATE PLANNING COUNCIL DOUGLAS GRAY BOOK PRIZE
A book prize is awarded to a student in the Faculty of Law who has demonstrated excellence in the course on wills and estates. Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated excellence in wills drafting exercises.
* VICTORIA FOUNDATION ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
One annual entrance scholarship will be awarded to a student entering the Faculty of Law J.D. program who has demonstrated academic excellence. Preference may be given to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to community involvement through volunteerism. Selection of the suitable recipient will be at the discretion of the Faculty of Law.
* CLIFFORD S. WATT MEMORIAL BOOK PRIZE
A book prize to honour the memory of Clifford S. Watt, former Chief Legislative Counsel of the Province of British Columbia, is awarded to a first year student in the Faculty of Law who demonstrates academic excellence in LAW 104, Law, Legislation and Policy.
* JOHN & DORA WIGHT SCHOLARSHIP IN LAW
Two scholarships are awarded to students who have completed first year law and have demonstrated all round proficiency in legal studies.
* J. LYLE WILSON BOOK PRIZE IN LAW
A prize is awarded to the Law student who stands highest in the course in Administrative Law. The award is in honour of J.L. Wilson, formerly solicitor of the B.C. Hydro and Power Authority on Vancouver Island.
* WINONA WOOD NATIVE WOMENS' STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP IN LAW
One or more scholarships are awarded to outstanding native women students entering the Faculty of Law.
* THE WOOTTON SCHOLARSHIP IN LAW
A scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed, with high academic standing, the first or second year
program in Law. The recipient shall have demonstrated proficiency in composition and legal research. The scholarship was endowed in 1976 by the Honourable Robert A. Wootton, former Justice of the Supreme Court of B.C., to honour members of the legal profession of his own family.
* THE TERRY J. WUESTER GRADUATION AWARD IN LAW
In recognition of academic excellence, an award is presented annually to the graduate who has obtained the highest marks over the course of J.D. study at the Faculty of Law.
