* JEFFREY MALLETT LEADERSHIP AWARD

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

An award is given to a student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who can demonstrate involvement in community or campus organizations. Preference will be given to a student on a Vikes varsity team. Submit resumé and cover letter highlighting your involvement in community or campus organizations to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by November 15.

* KYLE MCMILLAN AWARD

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

An award is given to a student in year 3 of the BCom program in the Faculty of Business. Selection of the recipient will be based on fall class evaluations and any or all of the following criteria: athletics, leadership, academic, public speaking. Nominations will be accepted from students and faculty by the BCom Associate Director on or before December 15th of each year.

 

Bursaries

  • Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

 

* MARGARET T. CLINCH BURSARY IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

One or more bursaries of up to one-half the cost of tuition are awarded to female students entering third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program with an area of concentration in Entrepreneurship and General Business Management.

* WILLIAM C. MEARNS IN BUSINESS

* JOHN H. RENNIE BURSARY IN BUSINESS

One or more bursaries are awarded to students proceeding to year three or four of the Bachelor of Commerce program. The bursaries are renewable for one year of the student remains eligible.

SHIRLEY RIDLEY BURSARY

Value: $2,000 | Number: 1

A bursary of $2,000 is awarded to students entering or continuing in the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

TALISMAN ENERGY BURSARY

Value: $2,000 | Number: 1

A bursary of $2,000 is awarded to a student continuing in one of the following areas of study: Commerce, Earth Sciences, Geography, Economics or Engineering.

Scholarships, Medals and Prizes

Entrance

 

BLACK PRESS BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP

Up to thirty-seven scholarships of $5,000 each are awarded to outstanding undergraduate students entering or continuing in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, one scholarship to a student from each school district on the attached table.  Applications together with a letter stating applicant's future goals, career ambitions/aspirations and a letter of reference must be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by February 28th each year. Payment of this scholarship will be done in two installments, the first in September and the second in January. The second installment will be dependent upon the recipient maintaining a full time registration in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.  

 

THE DR. J. DONALD ROWLATT ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
1 @ $2,000

A scholarship is awarded to a BC secondary school student entering first year at the University of Victoria and who has been granted admission to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Preference will be given to an aboriginal student.

* BILL BUCKWOLD/JENNIFER RICHARDSON AWARD

An award is given to a BCom or MBA graduating student who has demonstrated a substantial improvement and who has overcome a significant challenge to achieve their educational goal. Applications may be obtained from the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business and must be submitted to the Dean’s Office by April 30th. If an undergraduate student, selection will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards and if a graduate student, selection will be made by the Graduate Awards Committee both upon the recommendation of the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

 

CGA CONTINUING EDUCATION AWARD

An award is made to an outstanding Bachelor of Commerce degree graduate who intends to become a Certified General Accountant. The award is a $2000 credit toward CGA Program tuition fees for the academic year following receipt of the award.The selection of the recipient is based on graduating average. Apply to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30.

 

* CANADIAN NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in either the International Business program or the Entrepreneurship and Small Business program. Preference is given to students from the Kitimat-Stikine, Stikine, Bulkely-Nechako areas, the Cariboo, the Okanagan-Similkameen, Central Okanagan and North Okanagan regions. Selection is made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Business. By application to Faculty of Business by April 30.

 

* MURRAY & LYNDA FARMER SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding 3rd or 4th year students in the Bachelor of Commerce program who demonstrate dedication to community organizations and have a strong interest in business ethics and social responsibility. Students must have completed or be enrolled in one or more courses related to the study of ethics or social responsibility. Applications together with a 500 word essay on business ethics, personal goals and community involvement must be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30th.

 

* LEE HAYES SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship is awarded to a student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Applicants must submit a 1000 word letter detailing their commitment to their educational and career goals. An application form that can be used as a cover sheet is available to print from the Student Awards & Financial Aid website and must be returned with the letter to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30.

NOTE:  The donors have requested that the student receiving this award is not to have grades of A- or above.  Students are also to visibly demonstrate that they are doing everything possible through rigorous studying to reach his or her goals and must have good work habits and organizational skills.

 

* ALBERT HUNG CHAO HONG SCHOLARSHIP IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Two scholarships, renewable for one year, are awarded to academically excellent undergraduate students, one entering the International Business specialization and one entering the Entrepreneurship specialization in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. To receive scholarship renewals, recipients must maintain a grade point average of 7.0 or better. A student whose grade point average falls between 6.5 and 7.0 may file a written appeal with the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business to seek special consideration for renewal of the scholarship. No renewal is considered if a student’s grade point average falls below 6.5.

 

ROSE WON LAU BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship is awarded to a Bachelor of Commerce student planning to participate in an academic exchange program and/or co-op work placement in China. Selection of the student is based onthe submission of a resume and an essay demonstrating the student's involvement in sports, extra-curricular activities or community contributions and stating how the scholarship will be of assistance in completing the co-op term or exchange, and on academic merit. Preference will be given to a female student of Chinese ancestry. An application form that can be used as a cover sheet is available to print from the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business website and must be submitted with a resumé and an essay by January 31.

 

CHRIS MARKOFF MEMORIAL AWARD

An award of $500 is given to a 4th year student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. This student should demonstrate, through a resume, a keen appreciation for the outdoors and a record of outdoor pursuits. Preference will be given to a Canadian student who is involved in the Commerce Cultural Liaison Program (CCLP) and who has taken the time and effort to mentor foreign students at the University. Resume to be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30.

 

* THE OLIVER PRENTICE MEMORIAL - SAANICH ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship is awarded to a student of outstanding merit and promise and qualities of character indicating worthiness to hold the scholarship, who is planning a business career and is continuing studies at a recognized university or is articled to a chartered accountant, or C.G.A. Apply to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30.

 

THOMAS(BILL) ORR SCHOLARSHIP IN BUSINESS

One or more scholarships are awarded to students in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Eligible students must be involved in university life, such as athletics and/or clubs or campus organizations. An application form that can be used as a cover sheet is available to print from the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business website and must be returned with a resume or list of community/campus involvement to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by April 30.

UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA FACULTY OF BUSINESS JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships totalling $2,500 are awarded to academically outstanding students in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. Each scholarship is payable at $500 upon entering 1st year in the Faculty, $1,000 entering 3rd year and $1,000 entering 4th year. Students must be a member of the Junior Achievement of Canada Company Program (JACAN). If a student maintains a grade point average of 6.50 or higher, the scholarship is automatically renewed for years 3 and 4 of a student's full time study (12 or more units). Applications must be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business by June 30th.

 

MALCOLM MANSON MEMORIAL AWARD

An award is given to an undergraduate student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who is attending a university in China on exchange and/or completing an internship in China. Students must submit a cover letter with a 500 word essay expressing their passion and interest in China and outlining how they anticipate the China experience will benefit them. Applications must be submitted to the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, Business Student Services Office by April 30th.

Applications from students are NOT required for scholarships listed in this section.

Unless otherwise indicated in the Terms of Awards, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.

Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.

 

BANK OF MONTREAL SCHOLARSHIP

Two scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded to students entering year 4 of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Preference is given to students who show a strong potential for a career in a financial institution.

 

THE PETER B. GUSTAVSON SCHOOL OF BUSINESS MEDAL FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The Medal for Academic Excellence is awarded to a student with the highest graduating grade point average of the combined two convocation classes in the B.Com program of the calendar year.

 

CGA ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $500 is awarded to a student who has completed year three and is entering year four of the Bachelor of Commerce program at the University of Victoria.

 

THE CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS' EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF BRITISH COLUMBIA PRIZE

An award of $2000 is made to a Bachelor of Commerce degree student who intends to become a Chartered Accountant.

 

HAROLD G. CRAVEN SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate 4th year students in the Department of Economics or the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who intend to pursue a career as a Chartered Account.

 

HOTEL ASSOCIATION OF GREATER VICTORIA SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $1000 is awarded to a student who has achieved academic excellence in the Hospitality Management Program in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business and who demonstrates the intent to pursue a career in Tourism Management.

 

* MADAM SOONG CHING LING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to students from China who are attending the University of Victoria on a Student Visa. Preference will be given to students in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

* HOWARD AND LINDA PETCH / GREATER VICTORIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering third year in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

 

*TIM PRICE SCHOLARSHIP IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding students in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who are in the Entrepreneurship Program.  This scholarship may be awarded to a graduating student.

 

*DAVID RITCHIE INTERNATIONAL STUDY ABROAD BUSINESS GRANT

Up to two grants will be awarded annually to either one undergraduate student to spend one or two semesters at the University of Victoria in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business or one student to complete the MBA program at the University of Victoria. Grant applicants must be a recipient of the Horatio Alger National Scholarship and in good standing with the committee and approved by the UVic Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

DON ROWLATT SCHOALRSHIP

One or more scholarships awarded to Bachelor of Commerce students who have achieved high academic standing in the third year finance and accounting core courses.

 

* HENRY & MARIAN THIEL INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AWARD

An award will be given to a Canadian 4th year academically outstanding undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Commerce program who has completed the Bachelor of Commerce core and who is specializing in International Business.

 

VICTORIA CA ASSOCIATION & CA EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $800 is awarded to a student in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business who has completed the Financial Accounting course and who intends to pursue the chartered accountant designation.

 

* THE W. GARFIELD WESTON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP IN HOTEL AND RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT

One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program and specializing in the Hotel and Restaurant Management area. Academic standing of graduates of approved two-year Canadian Hospitality Diploma programs will be assessed on college course results.

 

* IOLA WORTHINGTON SCHOLARSHIP IN BUSINESS
