Confirmation of Enrolment

PLEASE NOTE: Students are responsible for maintaining interest-free status with their lenders. Please contact your lenders with any questions.

In order to keep your Canada and Provincial Student Loans interest-free, you will need to submit confirmation of full-time enrolment on each type of loan.  You must meet the full-time status requirements outlined below. UVic can start confirming enrolment for most provinces 2 weeks before your classes start. For Ontario forms and CPP forms, confirmations can not be completed until the first day of classes.

 

FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT CHECKLIST

confirmation of enrolmentRegistered in a minimum of 4.5 units of study per term

Students who have registered as having a permanent  disability with their student loan providers are considered full-time at 3.0 units.

confirmation of enrolment Course of study is 12 consecutive weeks

confirmation of enrolment None of the courses are duplicate, mutually exclusive or waitlisted

confirmation of enrolment There are no breaks greater than 10 working days during the study period

 

The following is a list of forms which the Student Awards & Financial Aid office can process for you to confirm your enrollment at the University of Victoria.

Our office can sign:

  • All Full-time Government Student Loan forms & documents
  • All Interest-Free Government forms for Student Loans
  • Part-time Government Student Loan forms & documents
  • Bank Student Line of Credit Confirmation forms
  • Canada Pension Plan Forms (Orphan’s & Permanent Disability Benefit Forms)
  • United Nations Enrollment Verification Forms
  • Unofficial Transcript for financial aid purposes
  • External Scholarships Forms from school districts, legions, clubs, businesses and professional groups
  • Veterans Affairs Forms (USA)
  • Explore French Language Program Form
  • Generic Confirmation of Enrollment for utilities and health plans and child care subsidy

 

FULL-TIME GRADUATE STUDENT CHECKLIST

Any student who is registered for a single term in Winter Session (September to December OR January to April) OR Summer Session (May to August) is defined as full-time if:

confirmation of enrolment Enrolled in courses totaling a minimum of 3 units, or

confirmation of enrolment Enrolled in a dissertation (699), thesis (599), project (598 and some 596) or co-operative education work term (800+).

 

 

How do I confirm my  full-time status for past student loans in order to maintain interest free status?

Complete ONE of the following tasks if you have not yet cashed and received student loan funding for the current term:

Submit new government student loans to your lender

OR

Submit the required paper confirmation of enrolment forms

OR

If your loans were through Student Aid BC “Apply for Interest-Free Status On-line” at http://www.aved.gov.bc.ca/studentaidbc/ ***This option only works if you are not taking out a loan for the current term.

Getting paper forms signed

If you cannot come to our office in person, you may fax us a request. Please print out, complete and fax a Confirmation of Enrolment Request Form. Our fax number is (250) 721-8757. In order for a request to be complete, a clear photocopy of picture identification must accompany your request.

Once we complete the school portion of the forms, we will mail them, via regular mail to you. You will need to complete the student section and sign the forms before forwarding to your lenders.

Third Party Pick-up Form - If you cannot come to our office in person and wish to designate someone you trust to submit or pick up your paperwork for you, you may complete and fax us a Third Party Pick-up Form. Please be aware that this form is NOT a legal Power of Attorney and your proxy CANNOT sign paperwork on your behalf using this form.

Since we process faxed requests in date order as we receive them, it may take a few days for us to complete your request. To ensure you do not go into repayment with your lenders, please send us your request as early as possible.
