Fee Reduction & Drop Deadlines

Standard Course Dates

PLEASE NOTE: Term 1 course lectures end on August 7, 2013. Term 1 Exam period is August 12-22. Term 1 exam schedule see: www.registrar.uvic.ca/exams. Fee reduction and drop deadlines are based upon a percentage of the duration of course lecture.

Congress 2013 of the Humanities and Social Sciences is being held on campus and requires full use of all classrooms.  Therefore classes cannot be scheduled from June 3 – 11. This will particularly affect May-June classes and May- August classes where there will be a “break” of 7 week days due to Congress.  Following Congress, June courses will begin later than usual on Wednesday June 12 and end later on Friday July 5th

Some courses begin early. Please check the online timetable.

* Examinations are held in the class period on the last day of the section in which a student is registered except for Term 1 courses whose examination period is August 12-22, 2013. Supplemental and Deferred Examinations are scheduled by arrangement through the department concerned.

Non-Standard Course Dates

Check Timetable: www.uvic.ca/timetable

NOTE: The table below is used in calculating the refund dates for non-standard date courses as well as for Academic Drop Deadlines. The duration of a course is end date – start date + 1 (i.e. the first day counts as 1).

Non-Standard Course Dates

Undergraduate tuition fee reduction deadlines - fee reductions are NOT the same as academic drop deadlines. For courses with different start dates or significantly different duration from the standard dates noted, tuition fee reductions are as follows. Days shown are calendar (not lecture) days.

All tuition fee reductions are subject to retention of the acceptance deposit (new students) described in Fee Regulation 2a.

NOTE: Any course with a non-standard date added after this Guide has gone to print will appear on the online timetable.

The duration of a course is end date – start date + 1 (i.e. the first day counts as 1).

Example calculation of deadline dates: LING 181 A01:

  • Duration is 6 days (25May13– 30May13 = 5 + 1 = 6). The first day counts as 1

  • 100% Fee Reduction Date is 25May13 (0.15*6 = .9 rounds to 1). This first day counts as 1. The deadline is the start date 25May13

  • 50% Fee Reduction Date is 26May13 (0.38*6= 2.28 rounds to 2). The deadline is 25May13 + 2 = 26May13. The first day counts as 1

  • Academic Drop Deadline is 28May13 (0.66*6= 3.96 rounds to 4). The deadline is 25May12 + 4 = 28May13. The first day counts as 1

Course Changes , Adds & Drops

You may add “standard” or “non-standard” Summer Session courses by using online registration until the stated 100% fee reduction date for each section. After the Add Deadline (same date as the 100% Reduction Deadline) a request to add a course must be submitted on an Undergraduate Course Change Form to Undergraduate Records; approval is not automatic.

You may drop “standard” or “non-standard” Summer Session courses using online registration without penalty of failure until the academic drop dates.

After the Academic Drop Deadline, to drop a course a Request for Academic Concession (RAC) form must be submitted to Undergraduate Records; approval is not automatic. To drop a graduate course, contact Graduate Records in writing.

NOTE: You are not withdrawn from the session if you fail to attend classes or cancel your cheque. If you fail to follow the proper procedure (see withdrawal from University) you will be billed for the full amount due, plus a penalty fee, and a grade of “N” will be entered on your transcript

NOTE: Any course with a non-standard date approved after this Calendar has gone to print will appear on the online timetable.
