BIOL 492 3.0 Units
Offered in Malaysia
May and June, 2012
The Department of Biology at the University of Victoria in collaboration with the School of Biological Sciences at Universiti Sains Malaysia offers a credit course (3.0 units) in Tropical Field Ecology at various field study sites in Malaysia.
This tropical experience in Malaysia not only gives the student an exposure to aspects of tropical biology but also provides opportunities for experiential learning and interaction with the citizenry of the host country. The six-week program in Malaysia will explore diverse tropical habitats and biological communities including tropical rain forests, mangrove swamps, coral reefs, wetlands, and agroecosystems. Travel through much of peninsula Malaysia will highlight this ‘studies abroad’ program. Accommodation will be in university and field station dormitories. Local food will be the order of the day. All participants will be expected to be sensitive to the culture and traditions of the host country.
