Each academic year, the University of Victoria receives more applications for admission than can be accepted and an entering average (“cutoff”) is usually set above the published minimum. Academic performance of applicants is the main criterion for an offer of admission and will continue to be used exclusively in the majority of applications. However, the University of Victoria has an admission category that considers students who may have other attributes that demonstrate their ability to succeed at university. Only applicants to the Faculties of Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences may be considered.
Expanded Qualifications is available to current graduating students from Canadian secondary schools who meet the published minimum academic requirements for their program as described in the University calendar. Additional information regarding current cutoffs can be found here. Please note that there will be a limited number of students admitted under this category.
To apply for consideration under this admission category:
- Download, complete and submit the Personal Information Profile (PIP) for the faculty to which you are applying. Make sure you include your UVic student number on the form. (Note: an application will not be considered if the PIP is incomplete or if the faculty on the PIP
does not match the program requested on your application.)
- Applicants are to submit one (1) current letter of reference.
Only
one reference letter will be considered per applicant. (Note: a PIP cannot be considered without a letter of reference.)
- The PIP and reference must be received by May 3 , 2013. Documents can be submitted as scanned attachments by email to your assigned admission assistant or the contact person listed on the form, via mail (see mailing address below), or in-person (Undergraduate Admissions, Main Floor, University Centre).
Faculty committees will meet in May to consider all Expanded Qualification submissions.
Note: Submission of a PIP does not replace the application for admission. Students who have not already applied for admission can do so online using My UVic application. Students who have already applied for admission, but who now wish to be considered under the Expanded Qualifications admission category, must submit the additional documents as described here by the stated deadline.
