Ontario Secondary Schools Admission Requirements

The minimum academic qualification for consideration is secondary school graduation with an average of at least 67% (70% for Bachelor of Engineering/Software Engineering and 80% for Business) calculated on all required grade 12 courses.

Due to limits on enrollment and competiveness of certain programs, the actual cutoffs in a given year are usually higher.

Admission Requirements

BUSINESS

 

EDUCATION
No Year 1 entry. Consult the UVic Calendar for pre-admission information and admission requirements.

 

ENGINEERING (Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Software Engineering)

  • English 4U
  • Physics 4U
  • Advanced Functions 4U with at least 73%
  • Chemistry 3U or 4U
  • Two or three additional 4U/M courses (three if Chemistry 4U was not taken)


ENGINEERING (Computer Science)

  • English 4U
  • Advanced Functions 4U
  • One of the following: Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U, Earth and Space Science 4U or Physics 4U
  • Three additional 4U/M courses


FINE ARTS

  • English 4U and five additional 4U/M courses
  • In addition to academic requirements, applicants to the School of Music, the Department of Theatre, and the Deparment of Visual Arts are assessed through an audition, portfolio, or questionnaire. HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT (Child and Youth Care)

  • English 4U and five additional 4U/M courses


HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT (Health Information Science)

  • English 4U
  • Advanced Functions 4U
  • Four additional academic 4U/M courses


HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT (Nursing, Public Administration, Social Work)

HUMANITIES

  • English 4U and five additional 4U/M courses


LAW
No Year 1 entry. Consult the UVic Calendar for admission requirements.

SCIENCE

  • English 4U

  • Two of the following: Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U, Earth and Space Science 4U, or Physics 4U
  • Two additional 4U/M courses


SOCIAL SCIENCES

  • English 4U and five additional 4U/M courses

 

APPROVED GRADE 12 COURSES

Important Notes:

  • Courses numbered 4D, 4P, 4O, 4C, and 4E are generally not acceptable.
  • Course numbered 4L are locally developed, compulsory courses and may be considered on an individual basis.
  • Courses must be 1 credit each.
  • English 4U (ENG4U) is the required English course.
  • All 4U and 4M are accepted as Academic 12 courses.
  • Only those courses under the heading of Approved Math 12 and Approved Science 12 meet the Mathematics and Science requirements for the Faculties of Business, Engineering, Human and Social Development and Science.
  • Classical languages must be at the CU level and international languages at the DU level to be accepted.
  • FORMER OAC CURRICULUM - Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including the completion of OAC English (Language and Literature) and five additional OAC courses equivalent to the 4U/M courses required for the program.
